Finishing

Our focus this week is on finishing.

We will be focusing on the attacking third of the field and will use attacking patterns to help put us into a better position to score.

There are many ways to put the ball into the back of the net. We can use our feet, thighs, abdomen, head, back, shins, and shoulders.

We’ll focus on the kicking element this week. The boys will learn how to properly strike a power shot, while some will go into more detail on where to place the ball and when rather than use power, and even when to use a toe poke rather than any other part of the foot.

As kids, we try to get more power through leaning backwards and using the inside of the foot to lift the ball into the air. Our plant foot is placed far behind the ball to help us with this effort.

It’s a good and creative idea at first. But what’s better is to develop proper technique from a young age, rather than relying on a technique later in life that doesn’t serve us anymore.

Take a look at this.

Kevin DeBruyne drives through the ball on every strike and (mostly) strikes the ball directly in the center with his laces, his plant foot next to the ball and his leg swinging high into the air on the follow through.

Expect technical attacking patterns, details into striking the ball, and small sided games this week.

See you tonight.
