Perception - 2012 Girls

Hi Parents,

Please read this out loud to your daughters:

Our focus this week is on perception.

Perception is what we first see on the field and second how we interpret what we see.

There are four specific aspects we are scanning for on the field:

1. Ball

2. Teammates

3. Opponents

4. Space

The ball is an easy one. Our eyes are usually glued to it!

Our teammates is what we look for next. Teammates give us options and help us move the ball up the field.

Opponents are what stands between us and the goal.

And space is the open part(s) on the field. Identifying space is key to knowing your next move with or without the ball.

Interpret all four of these and you can start to see how the flow of the game is. With experience, you will be able to predict where the ball will go next.

Soccer is not a static game. It's in constant motion, which means we must be aware of where the ball, teammates, opponents, and spaces are. To do this, we scan.

Scanning is not just a look over the shoulder. It’s an interpretation of what’s around us, tied to the four specific aspects above.

Expect rondos, small-sided games, and positional play games this week.
