Where's The Space?

This week’s word is space. This can mean several different things, but our focus is on creating space when we’re on offense. Also, we’ll be integrating our word from last week, perception, to help the boys look away from the ball and notice where the space is on the field. From there, the boys can choose to dribble, pass, or make a run into that area.

In order for the boys to see space more clearly, we need to slow the pace down. Our initial play sessions at the beginning of each practice will be walking games. This is so the boys have time to recognize the space where the ball needs to move into. Also, it’s going to be hot and the boys still need to get their fitness back.

You’ll hear the coaches asking "Where’s the space?” and "What can you do now that you see the space?” and “How can we create more space?” and “Why is there no space right now?”

We will again work on our first touch through triangle passing and getting used to controlling the ball when it comes to us in the air. Our focus in chipping will be on the technique of striking a larger ball and will help us build leg strength.

During our last part of practice, we’ll speed the pace back up and see if the boys improve in recognizing the space on the field.
